TEPCO Energy Partner, Incorporated, Kyocera Corporation, and ENERES Co., Ltd. will begin a demonstration of DR[1]with remote control of residential storage batteries (hereafter, “this demonstration”) from September 3, 2024.

  1. Background
Recently, there have been successive cases of power supply shortages due to sudden increases in power demand from rising temperatures and decreased supply capacity from power generation equipment faults. Meanwhile, with the increase in renewable energy adoption, cases of output control for solar power generation and other sources are spreading nationwide.
In this context, the need to suppress and create power demand according to fluctuations in power supply to maintain power supply-demand balance is increasing, and the creation of balancing capacity using residential storage batteries is attracting attention.
  1. About This Demonstration
In this demonstration, customers using Kyocera residential storage batteries will cooperate as monitors.
The demonstration overview is as follows:
Demonstration Details●TEPCO EP instructs ENERES to control residential storage batteries based on supply-demand situation forecasts
●In addition, ENERES instructs Kyocera to control residential storage batteries based on daily control plans developed from spot price predictions
●Through ENERES’s energy management system and Kyocera’s equipment control system, Kyocera remotely controls monitors’ residential storage batteries
●During actual control, ENERES monitors storage battery charging/discharging status at 10-minute intervals and implements corrective control to achieve planned values
Demonstration PeriodSeptember 3, 2024 – December 31, 2024 (planned)
MonitorsCustomers with Kyocera residential storage batteries installed by THT
Verification Items① Possibility of Creating Balancing Capacity with Residential Storage Batteries
Verify the amount of balancing capacity created to maintain demand-supply balance during power supply shortages
② Technical Aspects such as Residential Storage Battery Response to Remote Control
Confirm control performance based on pre-established residential storage battery operation patterns
③ Economic Aspects such as Power Procurement Cost Reduction Effects
Verify impacts on power procurement costs and customer electricity bills
