ENERES Co., Ltd.

ENERES Co., Ltd. announces that, as an aggregator, it has succeeded in its first bid in the balancing market tertiary balancing capacity II on October 22, 2023. On the 23rd, the actual supply day, we contributed to power system supply-demand balancing by following a “0 kW instruction” to maintain output change to the reference value.

Until now, ENERES has participated as an aggregator in “Power Source I´,” which solicits power to respond to sudden power supply-demand tightening during severe weather conditions, building a mechanism to provide balancing capacity in cooperation with our customers. We have also participated in the capacity market since the first round in fiscal 2020 by providing supply capacity created through aggregation. With this entry, we have achieved commercial results in providing power to both the capacity market and balancing market.

The introduction of renewable energy is accelerating toward realizing “carbon neutrality by 2050.” Meanwhile, to make renewable energy, which tends to have discrepancies between generation forecasts and actual results, the main power source, there is a growing need for balancing capacity that can quickly, efficiently, and economically compensate for errors caused by renewable energy.

The “balancing market” was established in April 2021. Tertiary balancing capacity II is a market that solicits balancing capacity especially to fill gaps in renewable energy forecasts, with bids for the next day’s trading taking place daily between 12:00 and 14:00. If a general transmission and distribution operator requests power supply because prediction errors are expected to occur, it is necessary to supply power for 3 hours or more within 45 minutes through positive watt or negative watt.

Providing balancing capacity to the balancing market through aggregation is a new approach to effectively utilize distributed power sources, which until now have been used only for their owners, for society as a whole, securing balancing capacity economically and efficiently.

ENERES emphasizes participation in the balancing market as a means to support stable electricity supply in the era of renewable energy as the main power source, and promotes it as one of our “sustainability activities” that contributes to solving social issues while also being a business activity.
Through active participation in the balancing market, ENERES will promote both renewable energy as the main power source and stable electricity supply, contributing to the realization of a carbon-neutral future society.
