ENERES Co., Ltd.

Eneres Co., Ltd. has been selected as an “Operator of MRV[1] Support System[2] for the J-Credit System” by the Ministry of the Environment.
Based on this selection, starting from fiscal 2025, we will begin actual operation of our original MRV support system eneGX MRV’S to support the efficiency of J-Credit verification processes (from measurement, reporting, and verification to management) for the J-Credit system methodology “Introduction of Solar Power Generation Equipment (EN-R-002)[3].”
Corporations and other entities that introduce solar power generation equipment will be able to efficiently create J-Credits by using eneGX MRV’S.

■Background

The Carbon Credit Market[4] was established in 2023, and this March, Tokyo Metropolitan Government began operating Japan’s first local government carbon credit trading system. Furthermore, with the planned start of the Emissions Trading System (GX-ETS) in fiscal 2026, the introduction of “carbon pricing” – which assigns prices to CO2 emissions by companies to incentivize CO2 emission reductions – is expanding. In response to these trends, J-Credits are expected to see particularly high demand in the future.
Under the J-Credit system, the government certifies greenhouse gas emission reductions and absorption amounts as “credits.” It’s possible to create J-Credits from various initiatives that lead to greenhouse gas reduction and absorption, such as “introduction of energy-saving equipment” and “introduction of renewable energy.”
However, to actually create J-Credits, one must go through a series of labor-intensive processes:

▶Plan how to implement greenhouse gas emission reduction and absorption, then register a project plan that has undergone validity confirmation (audit)
 ↓
▶Implement greenhouse gas emission reduction and absorption activities according to the project plan, and measure fuel usage and other factors (monitoring)
 ↓
▶Calculate greenhouse gas emission reduction and absorption amounts based on the monitoring results
 ↓
▶Create monitoring reports
 ↓
▶Apply for certification and registration after verification (audit)
Since these processes are time-consuming and labor-intensive, it is difficult for corporations with limited personnel to create J-Credits, resulting in slow growth in credit creation.

■Eneres’ Original MRV Support System eneGX MRV’S

To resolve these issues, the Ministry of the Environment has been examining the digitization of J-Credit creation processes using blockchain technology since 2020, aiming to build a system environment (MRV support system) that supports the efficiency of verification processes for measurement and reporting toward J-Credit creation and links with the J-Credit registry system.
Eneres has now been selected as one of the operators to run MRV support systems in the J-Credit system.

The MRV support system operated by Eneres is our original eneGX MRV’S, built by combining blockchain technology with knowledge gained through participation in demonstrations led by the Ministry of the Environment. It supports the efficiency of the series of processes that are necessary for J-Credit verification (from data collection necessary for measurement to reporting and even application) targeting “Introduction of Solar Power Generation Equipment (EN-R-002)” and links with the national J-Credit registry system. Information about created credits is recorded on blockchain, and the system also manages J-Credit information after creation.
Eneres plans to utilize eneGX MRV’S in the J-Credit project “Eneres PV Value Creation Project” that Eneres will register, following discussions with examination organizations.

■Future Development of Eneres’ J-Credit Business

For the future development of eneGX MRV’S, we will work on expanding functionality to create a system that can support even greater efficiency. We will also consider expanding it to a system that supports methodologies other than “Introduction of Solar Power Generation Equipment (EN-R-002)” based on national examination results.
As for future development of Eneres’ J-Credit business, we plan to enhance not only J-Credit creation support but also sales and purchase services.
Eneres will contribute to realizing a decarbonized society by supporting J-Credit creation and distribution through the provision of eneGX MRV’S.

  • Condition 1: Install solar power generation equipment. Or implement additional equipment investment for already installed solar power generation equipment
  • Condition 2: In principle, consume all or part of the electricity generated by the solar power generation equipment for self-consumption
  • Condition 3: The electricity generated by the solar power generation equipment must substitute for grid electricity, etc.
