Moving to Final Stage for Start of J-Credit MRV Support System Operations~Selected as “MRV Support System Operating Business for J-Credit System” by Ministry of Environment~

ENERES Co., Ltd. announces that it has been selected as the “MRV Support System[1][Operating Business for J-Credit System” by the Ministry of the Environment. We will build an environment linked with the J-Credit registry system and others for the operational launch in FY2025 of the MRV support system that assists in streamlining J-Credit issuance operations for emission reduction activities through solar power generation equipment installation.
The J-Credit system is jointly operated by the Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Forestry Agency that certifies greenhouse gas emission reductions and CO2 absorption amounts as “credits.” J-Credits have high reliability and can be traded on the carbon credit market launched in October 2023, with calculation methods and monitoring methods (methodologies) specified for each emission reduction/absorption technology such as “introduction of energy-saving equipment” and “introduction of renewable energy.” However, there are challenges in increasing creation of J-Credits as participation is difficult for small and medium-sized enterprises and households with limited personnel due to time-consuming registration and application procedures for J-Credit certification. To actually create J-Credits, the following steps are necessary:
[Step 1]
Plan how to implement greenhouse gas emission reduction/absorption and register the project
[Step 2]
Conduct monitoring (measurement of fuel usage, etc.) for CO2 emission reduction/absorption amount calculation
[Step 3]
Create reports based on monitoring results and submit certification applications/registration to the J-Credit registry system
To address these challenges, the Ministry of the Environment is proceeding with consideration of digitalizing J-Credit creation using blockchain technology, and in FY2023, conducted examination and demonstration of an “MRV Support System” that supports streamlining monitoring and other operations for emission reduction activities through solar power generation equipment installation. ENERES participated as a cooperating business and built an MRV support system (Step 2) linked with the ENERES blockchain platform that records and compiles self-consumption data from solar power generation equipment (PV).
This fiscal year, we will modify the MRV support system built last year to realize integration with the national J-Credit registry system and verification organizations (Step 3), building a system foundation that supports operational streamlining and period reduction for Steps 2-3.
Furthermore, ENERES has registered the “ENERES PV Value Creation Project” that converts PV self-consumption to J-Credits, corresponding to Step 1. By participating in this project, corporations and households can conveniently complete all steps necessary for converting PV self-consumption to J-Credits.
Through this project ENERES aims to contribute to the widespread adoption of J-Credits, the expansion of renewable energy value and adoption, and ultimately, the realization of carbon neutrality.
