ENERES Co., Ltd. will participate in the beta version demonstration (hereafter, “this demonstration”) of the blockchain-based carbon credit marketplace “KlimaDAO JAPAN MARKET” conducted by KlimaDAO JAPAN Co., Ltd. (Representative Director: Shohei Hamada, Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo). The demonstration period is scheduled to continue until the end of February 2025.

[About This Demonstration]
This demonstration utilizes KlimaDAO’s already globally operational smart contract “Carbonmark API” to verify the benefits of a blockchain-based tokenized carbon credit market using Japanese J-Credits. Initially, buying and selling demonstrations will be conducted in a closed environment limited to participating companies and municipalities, with the aim of public release next spring.
A distinctive feature of this demonstration is that, as a world-first initiative, it enables the tokenization of J-Credits (hereafter, “J-Credit tokens”) on an open blockchain where anyone can freely join the network, making transactions possible.

J-Credit tokens can be programmed for specific functions and operations, leading to potential applications in various services. For example, it enables the creation of innovative services that were difficult in traditional carbon credit markets, such as automated trading using smart contracts, credit division and consolidation, and integration with other financial products. This is expected to contribute to the revitalization of the carbon credit market and the realization of more flexible climate change measures.

Furthermore, by utilizing blockchain technology, it aims to enhance the reliability and transparency of the carbon credit market and resolve challenges faced by existing carbon credits including J-Credits (such as low liquidity, transaction opacity, complex procedures, etc.). Additionally, through integration with blockchain-based MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) support systems, it is expected that seamless processing from credit issuance to distribution on the blockchain will become possible in the future.

[ENERES’s Role and Future Plans]
ENERES participated as a cooperating business in the MRV support system construction demonstration conducted by the Ministry of the Environment in FY2023. Furthermore, in preparation for the system’s operational launch in FY2025, we are proceeding with environmental development in conjunction with the J-Credit registry system and others, having been selected by the Ministry of Environment.
In this demonstration, ENERES will participate as a seller, tokenizing and selling our owned J-Credits.

ENERES believes that expanding the value of renewable energy is essential for its widespread adoption, and J-Credits are one effective means to achieve this. We decided to participate in this demonstration as it represents an advanced initiative to transform J-Credits into a more accessible and user-friendly value, and provides an opportunity to share insights into technical and business issues regarding J-Credit distribution expansion with participating companies.

Through this initiative, ENERES aims to contribute to the widespread adoption of J-Credits, the expansion of renewable energy value and adoption, and ultimately, the realization of carbon neutrality.
