au Renewable Energy, Inc. and Eneres Co., Ltd. will construct a large-scale battery storage facility (power output 28MW, battery capacity 90MWh)[1] capable of charging and discharging enough power for approximately 10,000 households in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture.
Operation is planned to start in April 2027 to contribute to stable power supply and the expansion of renewable energy adoption.

In this business, large-scale storage batteries will be directly connected to the power grid to contribute to power stabilization through various power market transactions, such as supplying balancing capacity[2] when power supply becomes tight.
au Renewable Energy will serve as the battery operator, providing energy to the wholesale power market, supply-demand adjustment market, and capacity market, while Eneres will act as an aggregator to conduct market transactions and handle necessary operational tasks and battery charge/discharge control. Additionally, both Chubu Electric Power Grid Co., Inc. and au Renewable Energy, Inc. will collaborate to examine demonstration projects to confirm the feasibility of alleviating grid congestion in the Chubu region.
Through this project, au Renewable Energy and Eneres will accumulate comprehensive knowledge of large-scale battery storage operations and continue collaborating on medium to long-term projects. Going forward, the companies aim to contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by the end of fiscal 2030, which the KDDI Group has set as a goal, by supplying the value of electricity generated by solar power during the day to KDDI facilities’ nighttime power demand.

[2] Balancing capacity is an important concept for maintaining stable power supply and demand. It plays a role in filling the gap between power supply and demand for stable power grid operation. Balancing capacity providers (mainly power generators) supply balancing capacity to maintain power grid stability.
